Nobody likes 9v batteries, they're expensive and don't last long. With a multimeter, if you forget to turn it on next time, it's dead. Great replacement for a cheap original vinyl I refurbished but broke when I replaced the battery. The next solution is a 9V lithium battery that can be charged with a regular micro USB cellphone cable! I have odes? proprietary 9V lithium battery that's over 10 years old and still works great. I charge it every few years. So these two solutions work very well together to keep that 15 year old multimeter from ending up in landfill.
