The charger is defective.
Tried several chords. The port on the loading block is tilted and therefore defective. Exchange requested, waiting for a new one. If I encounter the same thing I would ask for a refund. When the cable is held (pressed), the device, iPad Pro, charges faster than the original Apple charger and cable.
