Review on BLACK DECKER BC15BD Battery Alternator by Todd Phillips

Poor quality control - check before warranty expires.

I purchased this item from Amazon on March 12, 2017. I first used it on a 2001 Volvo that has been sitting in our driveway for months. The battery is fairly new but after not using it for a few months it was pretty dead and wouldn't start. No problem I thought so I bought this charger/starter for $72. It seemed to charge fine at first, but I was in a hurry, so I hit the "Engine Start" button to use the 75 amp (90 second) quick engine start feature. Suddenly the car went off completely - I couldn't even open/close the door locks with the remote, which worked fine until I pushed the engine start button on this charger. I thought it was the main fuse blown but I couldn't find anything wrong. I thought there was an electrical problem caused by a power surge from this charger and had the car towed to a workshop. To my surprise, the battery only charged overnight and it started right away. The only problem was that the battery needed charging and this charger didn't work. It happened again last week. The Volvo battery was too low to start the car so I decided to try this charger again without pressing the engine start button. So I plugged it in and plugged in this charger - the screen lit up and the two clip icons flashed and nothing else worked. So 3 1/2 months after the one year warranty expired, after two failed attempts to use this charger it still didn't work and now it's too late for me to fix or replace it. I must have received a faulty block and should have tested it more before the warranty expired. I need to buy another charger and rest assured it is not made by Black and Decker.
