I have found the cheapest way to brew quality kombucha. I received most of these articles through Revain. I'll give you a list: 1) Original Scobys - Fermentaholics ORGANIC Kombucha SCOBY with twelve ounces of starter tea. I have two of these (with multiple brews and separates, it's been six in two months). I brew six gallons at a time so I have eight. One goes around a gallon jug of water that I use as a control for the other six. I put a capful of bleach in the water to keep it clean and just add water when it has evaporated. The eighth goes under the center of the ceramic tile that I placed the bottles on. It heats the bottoms of the Grolsch beer bottles I use for my second fermentation. I use large elastic hair ties to hold them against the glasses. 3) Ohuhu Digital Temperature Controller Seedling Germination Thermostat - The probe enters a gallon jar of water and then adjusts the temperature in the other six brew jars. 4) SS Home Brewing Kettle Brewing Pot 12-inch Dial Thermometer - This gives me the analog backup of a digital thermostat. You'll need to adjust it a bit with an 11mm wrench to get them to match exactly. with 200 mesh food grade filter - works great for pouring brew from gallon cans into grolsch bottles. I also use it (with a strainer on top) to remove tea leaves from the originally steeped concentrate (I don't use tea bags - I use large black tea and matcha leaves) 6) ZeroWater 20 Cup Ready-Pour Dispenser - I use it is for filtered water for brewing. 7) 3 Outlet Grounding Adapter Kasonic Plug [UL Listed] Extension Cord Heavy Duty Power Cord w/ Grounding x 3 I actually used four of these adapters with three outlets connected together and then used a thermostat to control the power of all the seedling mat heaters. 8) Veda Matcha Organic Green Tea Powder - I use this for green tea. . I also use black tea leaves in the same brew. 9) BAERFO 304 Kitchen Ladle, Soup Ladle, Soup Ladle (4 oz / 13.5 in) - This is perfect for the gallon cans I use to clean up staples after the initial fermentation and a few cups of started brew, as well as spilled mixture of kvass and pomegranate juice bottled Grolsch for my second fermentation. 10) The cheapest way to get gallon jars for me is to buy gallon pickle jars at WalMart. They cost less than $6 each and you get pickles. I also use half-gallon beakers to collect the filtered water and cool the sugar-tea mixture to room temperature. The first brew lasts about ten days. I remove the staples and two cups of starter kombucha and place it all in a glass bowl. Then I raise the gallon again with pomegranate juice. I mix it up and put it in Grolsch cans. The second fermentation takes two to three days, but you have to open the bottles every day, otherwise the bottles get too much pressure and burst when opened. Then put the bottles in the fridge and chill to enjoy. You make a new batch by pouring filtered water and a mixture of sugar and tea into a gallon glass and topping it up with the two cups of liquid you saved from the previous batch plus staples. Then, secure a large paper coffee filter on top with a large hair tie or rubber band. After 8-10 days you will be ready to repeat. I have a diary I made in Excel to keep track of the cooking steps.
