The smallest profile on the inside makes the installation as clean as possible, and it is also desirable to use longer mounting screws.
The cleanest unit with the lowest back panel profile I've seen. With this light, installation was the easiest I have ever experienced. For the 6" LED I used a 4-1/4" hole saw for the ceiling box and it looks very clean with no ceiling gap. is 4 inches in diameter and works well. [Update] I bought the Ostwin model for comparison. Ostwing has a scalloped edge versus Jullison's tapered edge and I will be buying both. Ostwing supplies both long and short machine screws and that helps. only with standard screws. I often need a longer one to get to the ceiling box hence 5 stars dropped to 4 stars.
