Better than Saburr Tooth

I'm really surprised by the quality of this instrument. I used it to carve the hollow part of a spoon and it worked beautifully. I made 2 spoons from the same maple board. I used a rough Saburr Tooth shot on one board and a rough Kutzall on the other. Based on looks, I thought the Saburr Tooth would do the job better, but the Kutzall actually performed better, both in terms of speed of material removal and ease of use. I thought the kutzall would clog with wood and need cleaning every few minutes but it turned out to be the opposite, it never clogged. The Kutzall actually ground the wood into fine dust, while the Saburr Tooth carved much larger pieces, but at a slower rate of removal. The wood is heated with the Kutzall, but does not burn, at least if you keep the tool moving. I also got a Kutzall fin to clean and it works well too, just not as deep as the coarse Kutzall, which is to be expected. I'm glad I have these tools and wish I had Saburr Tooth tools now. I have a dust collector and am working on a design part with a Foredom rotary tool right at the dust collector suction point. I generate a lot of dust and most of it is caught by the dust collector, but not all of it, so be sure to wear a respirator.
