Review on 🔌 Supco Black RCO410 Start Kit by Andrew Sticher

I bought an apartment and it has a Frigidaire fridge, not the prettiest but it worked great. One day I came home from work with ice cream and when I opened the freezer it was clearly not cold and the ice had almost completely melted and the fridge compartment was warm. By my calculations, this happened 4 days after I went grocery shopping and stocked up on tons of frozen food. I looked at the label inside and it said it was made in 2003 so was around 14 years old. I looked online and saw that a replacement motor is about $300 each so I figured I'd just buy a new one. But looking through all this I came across websites that said the motor rarely fails, more often the capacitor or starter switch fails and this is a simple and inexpensive fix. It made me look at things more deeply. I read websites and watched YouTube videos and somewhere along the way I found a link to this item. For less than $10 and with free 2-day shipping with Prime, it's definitely worth trying before you decide on a new fridge. After receiving the part, I pulled out my fridge, unplugged it, and checked. I don't really have any experience with this type of work, but we had a brand new GE Profile refrigerator in my old apartment and over the course of 10 years we've had it repaired at least 3 times for around $200 each repair. The mechanisms of my Frigidaire were not like the videos I saw. Most of them seemed to have a capacitor connected to the engine with a starter switch connected to it, but the mind had the starter switch connected further inside the fridge. However, as I was in the process of buying a new fridge, I figured if this one doesn't work, what do I lose by trying? So I did my best and unhooked the start switch and then pulled out the capacitor. Of course, I heard the internet say that when I shook the capacitor, the fragments inside rattle. It took me about ten minutes to connect all the wires to the Supco in one fell swoop. I checked everything closely to make sure all the connections were good, then plugged it in, walked around and turned on the fridge in the cold and she started purring like a kitten. Within seconds I could feel cold air rushing into both the fridge and freezer. It worked! Some websites and videos said it should only be a temporary fix until you can get expensive replacement parts, but others said it's okay to leave it on forever, so that's how I do it. Three weeks in, it's still working great. I can't believe how cheap and easy it was to fix my own fridge! I've been telling friends and family about it ever since. I'm kinda hoping someone's fridge will break and I'll look like a hero fixing it. :-) Anyway I definitely recommend this part and also that you watch videos and read websites because it helped me a lot both in confidence and in seeing how different brands of fridges are different inside look. Save your money and fix it yourself with this one!
