Review on πŸ”¬ Advanced Semiconductor Analyzer with Curve Tracing - PEAK Atlas IT (DCA Pro) by Charles Russell

Doesn't test as many devices as advertised.

. for what is basically a cool toy. I'm already thinking about returning it, except I'm buying a lot of transistors, both TO-220 drivers like the MRF485 and 211-07 "pills" like the MRF422. It is important to know the approximate gain of these units, especially since they are used in a push-pull configuration. I don't expect a perfect match, but if the pair is significantly different, like the Motorola shown in pictures 3 and 4, I'd like to send something to the supplier to explain why I want to return them. The parts dealer in this case stated that this type of high power RF transistor cannot be accurately tested with a low voltage device like the DCA75 and to a certain extent they are correct. However, the DCA75 tests other transistors I own, which measure gain the same as other testers I own, including those that are AC powered and test at higher voltages. I spent about 2 hours with the DCA75 connected to my PC testing various devices including both newer TO-220 case styles and older TO-3 versions such as the 28V regulators found in the Kenwood TS-930S be used. The DCA75 only successfully analyzed about 40% of the devices in my spares basket. However, a very cheap DROK tester tested many of them accurately, and my 50 year old EICO 685 measured both SCR and VR turn on voltages at 20 volts instead of the 8-11 volts which the DCA75 is limited to. Overall, I ended the day disappointed. So, in the famous words of Clint Eastwood, you have to ask yourself the question: is the PC connectivity and charting feature worth the extra $100 you are paying for this tester compared to the DROK shown in Image 5, or even the cheaper Mega 328 , also available here on Revain. I plan to keep it for my radio work but I'm sorry I paid $160 for it. A fair price would be around $90.

Pros
  • . Good product for the price.
Cons
  • . Not bad.
