These drywall screws are a terrible design. The screw thread is nailed to the end that goes into the wall just behind the yellow piece. Because they are loose and not a solid piece, the threads in the wall will snap if you apply ANY force (e.g. the force required to engage the Phillips head). If you're lucky, the threads will snap before your teeth open, and all you have to do is pull them out and try again. If you're unlucky (like me) the threads snap after meshing. The only options are to either leave it there or push through and patch. I got them working after trial and error. First, make sure you drill a hole larger than the dowel so you can insert it. If you must use a hammer, remove the screw first or the thread will break. If you use a drill, make sure you have a very tight Phillips head and drill very slowly. You do NOT want to push down when tightening the screw. I wish you success.
