Size as shown. I have an XL that says 40-42, I have a 38-40 so L would be too tight and XL would be too loose. The product was different than the picture, the adjustment straps were on the inside NOT the outside as shown in the picture and they changed little to nothing on the waist measurement. The first day was terrible as they kept falling it was very uncomfortable being in the snow with thick gloves and not being able to pull them out. The second day I decided on pants with a belt underneath and since the straps are inside I tucked them through the belt as a suspender system to keep them from falling off. Plus, they kept me on my toes and weren't bulky.
