They are exactly as pictured so if you look at the second photo where they are all together you know exactly what you are getting. They're small enough to fit on a cupcake but big enough that I don't have to worry too much about my little one playing with them while I'm in the same room. As in the photo, some are very elaborately painted, while others are just one or two colors, which suits us very well. My daughter has a speech therapist and we used her to introduce marine life and indirectly expand our vocabulary. They motivate her a lot and she loves to really study the details. If your child is the kind of person who picks up every item and really learns every detail, then they'll be entertained for quite a while. Next we will place them with water balloons and watch some documentaries about the sea. :)
