While I like the capacity of the drive, the fact that Seagate did not disclose that this drive was SMR made it unusable for my purposes, which were intended for an XBOX RAID 1 external hard drive. For those who don't know, SMR is composite magnetic recording and not traditional magnetic recording. Working with roof tiles is very similar to working with your roof tiles, where the pieces are laid in the right order. The problem is that if a bit needs to be overwritten, the ENTIRE sector of the tile needs to be written (yes, I'm simplifying the technology a bit on purpose). Not a problem unless you regularly overwrite parts of the disc. Like in a RAID configuration. This has not been announced and therefore it is necessary to purchase brand new drives and a NEW case to replace this unit which IS ALREADY IN THE WORK. HORRIBLE problems with them. Seagate should be ashamed that they are intentionally misleading the consumer, and then when the new one broke, they blamed the consumer for choosing not to buy more expensive corporate drives. At this point I've heard that Toshiba drives don't warp so they will be my future purchases from now on as Seagate lost my trust forever as a result. I had an 8TB model: ST8000DM004.
