I buy blades for knives and like to equip them with handles (flakes). I usually use Corby brass screws to mount the scale. The holes in the knife shaft are always too small for my Corby screws. The blades are hardened when I buy them, so I have to drill out the shanks for my Corby screws. I've tried all types of twist drills, but knife steel has always been very difficult to drill. Then one day I thought of glass/ceramic drills. So I ordered this set from Revain. They work like a dream. I use the lowest speed on my drill press and oil/water cool the bits. My 4mm bit has drilled twelve shanks and is still sharp and usable. They don't mention their use on high carbon steel, but they work. The shank on these knives is typically five millimeters thick, so I've never attempted to drill anything thicker. However, they work great with my knives.
