I got these packs a couple weeks ago for my dogs. My hubby and I love to back back camp, but decided it was time for our 5 yr old golden retriever & 4 yr old Vizsla to carry their own gear. After a long search we decided on these bc of the rvws. We have not field tested them yet, as the weather just turned nice & we haven't gone on our first camping trip just yet. I'll update if my opinions change after the field test.(For a TLDR- go to bottom of rvw)PRODUCT/QUALITY RVW:1. The material is a sturdy, thick fabric. I would compare it to high quality carpentry pants. The stitching appears to be quality and reinforced.2. There are three straps that give three points of contact.in my opinion this is to distribute the weight of the pack along the dogs back.3. There are two large pockets on either side. One pocket is open with a simple clasp for quick access and sits on the outside of a zippered pocket. The zipper appears to also be high quality.4. The handle along the back is large and can fit just about any size hand. Its large arch, I find, easily allows owner to hold on to the dog if a leash isnt an option.5. There are two rings to attach a lease or tether. One in the front of the pack by the neck and one in the back near the waist. Plus there are two more rings attack to the straps on the outside unsecured strap. (Not sure what I'd use those for.but could be useful)PRACTICALLY RVW:1. Recent vet visit confirms my dogs weight. My VZ (Vizsla) is 47lbs & my GR (golden retriever) is 51lbs. I got these packs bc they were rated for medium to large dogs.2. On the GR, the pack fits well.JUST well. The neck strap is great. Chest strap good. Waist strap.problematic because it cuts way to close to his male parts and I think this bothers him bc he's now less inclined to obey commands (like sit, lay down, wait).3. On my VZ - this pack simply does NOT fit. I have the straps as tight as it will go and the pack is loose. It doesnt shift, but I think with some weight on it, it might slip or at minimum cause chaffing.4. The straps are toooooo long. I understand that there is going to be excess when adjusting is needed. But because of the "one size fits all", at the smallest adjustment the straps drag the ground.>> I've compensated for this by knotting the straps. But the longer my dogs wear the pack, the straps un-knot and drag.BC of the above issues I deducted 2 stars. But gave 3 for quality of manufacturing.MY RECOMMENDATION:Do not buy if your dog is under 50lbs. OR if your dog is slim in stature. This pack will not fit them. If your dog is around or above 50lbs &/or is stocky.this is going to be a VERY nice pack for them.>>END<<TLDR:So far, the quality of manufacturing seems to be very good. I'm pleased with the durability of the material used and simplistic design. Three stars for quality. However I would not recommend for dogs under 50lbs or slim in stature as this "one size fits all" design is NOT conducive for smaller dogs or dogs that are narrow bodied. The adjustable straps will not tighten enough and then the straps will drag. Thats the 2 star deduction. But for larger dogs, I think this backpack will be a good addition.
