We bought them for camping. The telescoping/compactness was attractive as we had limited storage space in our RV. They are handy little chopsticks and last long enough to keep our kids from getting close to the fire. I'm not sure how long they will last. We only used them for marshmallows. MINUS: The metal of the skewer gets very hot, so you don't want to put it in your mouth straight from the fire, which is difficult to teach young children to do marshmallows. This requires some vigilance.
