Review on ๐Ÿš NORCOLD INC 1.1 cu. ft. Portable Refrigerator Freezer NRF30 Gray - Ideal for RVs, Trucks, Boats, Camping by Kyle Hoes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Save the bacon. and everything else

Read reviews I was skeptical but had 2 days to get something for my truck to keep things cool. I've tried websites, local retailers and of course Revain, they had the lowest price and overnight delivery. I ordered it, the delivery date said it wouldn't be delivered until next week. Frustrated I called Revain support and got a half hearted response like ship ASAP etc. To my surprise the Norcold was delivered the next day in a box that looked like it had been used in tough conditions but always still intact. A few minor scratches and scuffs. The real test. will it work. I hooked it up to a 12v Coleman converter that was being used for something else and plugged it in. It seemed to work, but sometimes the error light would light up. Looking at the labels, it turned out that the 12v converter I was using might not have enough amps. So I tried the Schumacher 1216 12V 15 Amp Power Converter and the cooler started dropping degrees with no errors. In hindsight the Norcold converter is rated for 24v but will work on 12v and at least 10 amps. The power problem has been solved. Tested to -1 degrees in a cold garage, temperatures dropped in just under 2 hours. I wanted it in the cab with the rear seats up and measured the door opening. Great fit. The largest I could get worked in a small opening. Problem solved. The two issues that bothered me are the lid lock comments. Looking at it, it seems like it's a bit on the weak side. I was very careful so we didn't have a problem with frozen food. Others, of course, used it like a regular metal safe and slammed the lid shut, banged on it with frozen sacks and it passed the test. I like that the door pops open quickly and easily. Another review issue was the poor quality of the 12V plug and its ability to stay in the socket. The initial connection to the 12V converter was not difficult. Then plugged into my truck's 12v socket with no problems. The second time I connected it to a 12 converter it didn't work. I wiggled the plug and still nothing, then I unplugged it and plugged it in and it worked. No movement, no problem. Then plugged back into the truck's outlet, had the same problem. No power, unplugged, plugged firmly in and everything worked. Then it wasn't. So I grabbed the console to wiggle it and found that all the little things I have on the bottom of the console are preventing the plug from going straight into the outlet. We moved a few things, reinstalled and we had electricity. What I didn't like was that the truck's 12-volt plug only works when the ignition is on. Not the fault of the Norcold cooler. The plan involves taking a backup battery, which will keep the computer system running for several hours, and plugging in a 12-volt outlet to keep the cooler running at night without using the truck's battery or an outlet to change inside the truck. Can I recommend a Norcold cooler? Works great as long as you have the power. The temperature will fluctuate up and down a few degrees while maintaining the "approximate level" it's set at. I'm not entirely sure if the plug is the problem. I tried a 12v dual plug and it worked fine.
