Everything is easier when you know SOMETHING before you start.

Hello, I rarely write reviews but feel compelled to share my experience if it can help someone (I wish I found my info before going through). I've been a mechanic for 40 years. I can say that this little job should be easy, but it isn't. E320 CDI Auto 2005 The first replacement key body (different brand/type than this one) was too thick and difficult to insert into the ignition cylinder and then difficult to remove. I'll send it back tomorrow. My first tip is that you definitely try before transferring the board etc. This new block did not come with instructions and some reviews lead you to believe that the case needs to be disassembled to fit the board. The video that appears with this listing does not show this particular model. When I tried to take it apart it didn't seem like it would fall apart without breaking/damaging anything. So I tried to just insert the board like in the original. At first I barely made it to the middle. I looked in and saw a couple of plastic protrusions in two places where they picked up some detail but left a gross "flare". This had to be cut and smoothed before final assembly. With these obstacles in mind, you should guide the board past these areas. Also, and this is very important, I had to use the black support pad that comes with the kit. When I tried to use my original white, the trunk knob didn't work (the difference in shape and thickness is in one spot). Eventually I got it almost to the bottom edge of the case and it wouldn't go any further. I had to insert a thin screwdriver deep enough to VERY gently lift/guide the board to the final, narrow section. I kept pushing it and thought that was enough. When I tested the buttons, all three main buttons had a "click", but not the panic button. After scratching my head a little more, I pushed the board a little harder and it moved about 2mm. Now all buttons work properly. The left and right edges of the board "align" with the adjacent plastic corner of the case. This will tell you it's fully seated. Yes, it doesn't have a chrome star and it comes with a black element that looks like it could accommodate a star (confusing), but the main attraction for me is that the buttons are separate pieces and not just molded shapes on a rigid one-piece body . The first one I got was terrible for the press. I'm working on this for an 80 year old woman, she can't pressure her in any way. So, I've just finished this work and can't vouch for short or long-term results yet. Even if it only lasts a few years, it's better than letting the cracked original board damage the board in any way. then you messed it up. (Like $300). Hope that helps. Much luck! I may add more stars later if it proves worthy!
