As other reviewers have said it requires an on and off toggle switch built into the cord so you can turn the pump on and off when needed can turn off. What I didn't like is that you have to turn off the device to control the pump, possibly with wet hands. So I made my own extension cord with a built in switch so I could turn the pump on and off without unplugging it. The second improvement I made was I took a silver dollar for the size and shape. Then I cut out the circles from the window screen repair kit and pop them into the other four open holes on the lid. This prevents foam and debris from entering the pump. I then used four rubber drain plugs to cover the open holes to soak small parts overnight. The fifth hole is a different size so I have to order a different size for it. I removed the original brush that came with the unit and replaced it with a stiffer one to clean parts. I also removed the clamp that was on the hose and replaced it with a small injector clamp that won't damage the hose. very easy if i have to. When I'm done I'll try to post photos of the finished product a little later. This makes it much shorter in height so I can use it under the car and also under the wheels when working on the brakes. I'm not lucky enough to have an elevator so it will work fine. I will use heated water and plain green to clean my parts, which works really well and shouldn't damage the pump. All in all, with some small improvements, it's very comfortable in many ways. This product is very well made and a very good buy for the price.
