Review on TOM Aquarium Canister and Power Filter Surface Skimmer by Koller Products by Andrea Washington

At less than $9 at the time of purchase this is a fantastic product. This is the first skimmer I've ever used and I know the more expensive skimmers cost a lot more and probably work a little better, but then again for the price this thing works amazing. The main reason I didn't give it 5 stars is how you have to set it up to really glide across the surface. There are two areas for water intake: from above through a transparent acrylic "crown" or through a filter below. My two main issues with this skimmer are that you interrupt the flow through the filter to actually pull the floating crown below the water's surface. Second, how small is the area on the bottom for the strainer, which can clog up very quickly if there are plant parts floating around in your tank. What I really like about this product is the price and the quality. works, it keeps the water surface crystal clear, I really have to turn it off when I feed the fish because all the flakes are sucked up from the surface before the fish have a chance to eat. I don't know if they designed it that way on purpose or not, but I was very surprised that it was very easy to connect to my Magnum 350 canister filter with no additional parts or accessories. Instead of using a harmonica tube I was able to connect the manifold directly to the bottom of the intake pipe after removing the screen. It took a bit of convincing, but it fitted in nice and neat with no changes.
