I tried 3 different seed starting kits, 2 with pellets and this set with deep seed starting pods. You add your own soil. I also used egg cartons and clear produce clamshells. This kit was the most reliable with the fewest leggy seedlings. Unlike larger trays, these were sturdier and easier to handle. The included tools are useful and seem durable. Just add tweezers and potting mix and you are ready to go.I am lazy, so I tried leaving one pod in each tray empty to water from the bottom without removing the insert. It works. Just tilt the assembly slightly and you can see the moisture change in each cell. Expect that less handling will make these puppies last even longer. I expect to use these again next year. A different small tray set from last year cracked when I tried using it this year.The only slight downside is an opaque dial to adjust humidity. Will that block light to a few plants?
