Review on Pentek FloPlus 10BB Activated Carbon Filter Cartridge by David Edwards

I live in a city with historically hard water and nasty chemicals in the water. We installed a water softener when we bought our house, but it still gave us skin irritation after a long shower and the need to use a filter jug for drinking water. Since we had to replace the house's entire water system with a Pex water system when we bought it, I knew the chemicals weren't coming from inside the house. I added a dual filter after the water softener forming two Pentek "Big Blue" units, one with a pleated sediment filter and the other with a carbon filter. The immediate effect was great. Our cold water was immediately drinkable straight from the tap (although we still like to use the razor glass in the fridge to cool it down) and after two or three showers we cleaned the contents of our kettle, skin irritation and dry skin were gone. .We had to replace the filters after about 6 months when there was a noticeable drop in pressure in the filter system and repeated skin irritation. The previously white pleated filter showed clear signs of chlorine contamination and turned a light green tint, and both filters had a slippery film on the inlet water seal. The replacement quickly eliminated both pressure loss and skin irritation. Water pipes cause our water to contain lead, so removal is a priority for us.
