Bought based on reviews and was discouraged at first not getting clean cuts. I used the hot/cold water method and the bottles broke in many directions. I then switched to the candle/ice water method and had the perfect cut every time. If you use the hot water method, too much of the bottle will be heated past the engraved line and the bottle will break elsewhere. The candle directs the heat precisely to the engraved line and you get a clean break. spin the bottle 3, About 1/4 inch away from the flame for 5 minutes, then submerge in ice water. If you can't get a break, bring her back to the flame. It may collapse on a second pass of the flame or in a second ice water bath. Basically, I am satisfied with the cutter.
