Review on πŸ“· Sony Alpha SEL1855 E-mount 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Lens (Black)" - Updated SEO-friendly product name: "Sony Alpha SEL1855 E-mount 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Lens in Black by Elijah Pope

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ultra Photo IQ/Vivid Contrast with OSS stability

Advantages: 1) Smooth, very well damped scaling. 2) Sharp Wide Open with OSS for stability and clarity on slow shots. 3) Excellent in the 35-45mm focal length range. 4) Clear clinical effect with round bokeh down two stops, round aperture. 5) Metal and glass exteriors for a premium look without the high-end price! 6) Slower lenses are no longer a problem, even indoors, with OSS and Sony's advanced, high-tech, backlit Exmor sensors. 7) The lens hood is mounted on a separate bracket as a filter! =] Total filter size 49mm! 8) Ultra silent focus for video 9) Very light 10) Metal bracket. On Raw, this could be one of the worst lenses out there. Mounted on a Sony mirrorless camera, it can compete with Zeiss and Leica "JPEG" at the same speeds. 2) Clinical sharpness leaves little room for the "character" of more expensive German and Japanese lenses, but the contrast makes up for this loss. 3) Use of plastic under metal (completely understandable for the price where others use plastic without shame. 4) Nearly useless, slow, focus by cord, manual focus. 5) The black version has quietly introduced improvements to the focus motor, sharpness and build quality, which even skeptical YouTube reviewers note when testing both the silver and black versions - they agree that the black version is like the shape of it another lens of higher quality feels, function and is optically superior. I own both. Very Good (Silver) Excellent (Black). 6) Plastic thread for filter. Most of these flaws are very easy to overlook given the price of this great lens. Sony is a dark horse in modern enthusiast photography, now it's making its feet in the field of professional photography with quality that drives me crazy for the price!
