I have used these on my kitchen cabinets and on two full size spring return room doors. They needed two or three shock absorbers because of their weight. They look like metal but are made of plastic. I smeared some silicone grease on the case's mating surfaces to eliminate the squeaking some had from lightly rubbing the cabinet case's paintwork while closing. I had to back out the rear set screw almost all the way for the doors to fully close. They put extra pressure on the hinges so they can also squeak if they aren't tightened and lubricated and the door cracks easily which also makes noise so they aren't entirely silent. Seems quieter with less rebound when used on heavier doors.
