They came and were very sturdy right out of the box but they are meant to be washed before use. So I soaked them in warm water with baking soda, then put them in the washing machine with just baking soda (no detergent) and then a vinegar rinse cycle. I ordered a standard size, they seemed too long and big when I first opened them so I thought I'd have to return them, but after washing (low drying) they seemed to shrink a bit but that was it enough to suit everyone. My pillows are right! I think that should be the key, when you receive them wash them first and they will shrink to the right fit. Flash works fine. They're a bit stiff and honestly feel like some thicker, heavy paper, but a pillowcase over them is fine. No tone or harshness. They don't feel heavy enough to withstand heavy tugging, so place them carefully on your pillow (without pulling on the zip). But I won't be taking them off and on every day, so it looks like they're doing fine. They are not the most expensive products so if like me you need allergy protection and buy the cheaper ones you should expect that they are not luxurious. But they do their job. I still have a few pillows that need covers, I think I'll order more.
