I was told I would have to spend $1000 in parts and labor for a new filler neck for my 2008 Ford Explorer because an EVAP leak occurs when you install the fuel nozzle in the car. The small flap at the top of the fuel filler neck did not close properly. I cleaned the small sunroof seal but the plastic handles preventing it from opening for someone else to fill it were broken. Maybe that was one of the reasons why it didn't close? For me, buying a fuel filler neck from an auto parts store cost me at least $350 plus my own labor. I applied a thin rubber gasket and Toyota FIPG sealant to the back of this cover and it passed the smog tests. with flying colors! I hope the smog police don't read this and try to follow me. What an absolutely ridiculous system that made me pay a thousand dollars for what ended up costing me less than $30 in repair materials. I even let the liner extend past the cap by about an eighth of an inch just to make sure I had a good seal. Good luck and buy this item with confidence. I have kept the original packaging material in case I need to show the smog shop that this is a Ford authorized part. It seemed like they didn't care.
