Get ready to drill, cut, bend and weld if you have a zr2 s10

Apparently they don't want to tell you that it fits the s10 but not the zr2. Could I send it back and look for another one that may or may not have the same problem? Sure, but it was here and it just needed a little tweaking. The holes for the skid plate are wide enough to drill new ones in the right places, wide enough not to interfere. I'd say it's an inch longer in the back, but it's good for strength. The problem is that the zr2's frame flex doesn't allow the plate to fit snugly in the frame, and just tightening it up will raise the hitch point anyway and lose most of its strength. So I used a cutting wheel and drew a 1 inch line, cut and bent a corner where I cut the line to match the curve of the frame, then welded it back on and painted. After that, the installation was very easy, as it should have been from the start! This is a solid, well-built towbar except for the issues listed above. Oh, and I'm sure it goes without saying that this will obviously void your warranty, but if you're skilled enough to make the above changes then I'm pretty sure you won't. I do not care.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly
