Five stars for features - three stars for difficult installation - four stars on average. In general, this phone is suitable for people with hearing or visual impairments. PROs are big numbers on the phone. The handset and base flash when the phone is ringing. The mechanical voice provides the caller's identity (requires you to have a Caller ID ["CID"] from your ISP; I entered the names and phone numbers of people I speak to frequently; the entered Name is then announced as person calls.(I don't know if this aspect of caller ID may require the provider's CID.) Ringer volume and listen volume are adjustable. The first three buttons on the handset automatically program the three large buttons on the base unit. This makes calling easier for the visually impaired Connecting the base to the power supply and plugging it into the phone jack is easy (almost intuitive) However the rest of the setup is complicated The manual is printed Very little help is needed an elderly person with a validity ; You're just wasting your money and creating a problem.) This phone is sensitive to interference from other electronic/electromechanical devices advises. My wife has to use the electromagnetic collar every day after cervical surgery (the collar was prescribed by her surgeon to encourage bone growth); We've found it creates static on this phone. Without such interference, the phone's sound quality is good. Supplied with a plastic MEHA bracket for wall mounting the base. Fortunately, no mounting material is included. Rather, the (fine print) instructions indicate that you should use the appropriate hardware for the location chosen for the mount. In other words, don't install this on drywall unless you're using molybdenum screws or something similar; the base weighs so much that after a short time most of the screws can be pulled out of the drywall. The bulking feature seems to be more of a marketing feature than anything else. The volume controls appear to have enough range to meet the needs of most of the hearing impaired (IMO). I usually wear hearing aids; With this phone I don't need them. The volume up feature is almost painful.
