I love quilts and I love appliqués! Put the two together and I'm in heaven. By using the "Look Inside" feature and looking at the accompanying images, we can see the beauty of each project. I love books that have this feature. When the book arrives, it minimizes surprises. If you like what you see, you will love this book. In the introduction, Cheryl Wall says, "I hope the projects in this book are approachable and not intimidating. because it's all about getting there, so enjoy the journey!” I think this attitude is reflected in their design. When I make quilts I mainly choose designs that reflect what I love, even though they may not be illustrated with the right colors. which I will use. If you don't like warm, rustic and deep rich shades of brown, red, blue and black, you can change the color. I love how Wall uses value to create a striking contrast in his quilts, and the materials list for each project lists yardage for light, dark, and medium fabrics. I found the instructions for each quilt detailed and easy to understand. I recommend this book to anyone with sewing experience. Instructions are given for cutting, sewing, appliqué techniques (fixable fabric or tucks), borders, underlay, quilting and binding. Additional instructions are included for each technique used in each project. Also scattered throughout are "notes" -Window with specific hints corresponding to each quilt. Another plus is that all templates are full size, NO MAGNIFICATION NEEDED! For those who want to find additional quilt-making tutorials, I really like Harriet Hargrave's Academy books; Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior available. Quilting Academy Freshman Year: Advanced Quilting Course. I recently bought a quilters bible which is good too. While Hargrave provides information on choosing a good quilting machine, the Quilter Bible does not. Try them out and see what you prefer. Sophomore, Junior and Senior available.
