I have two orange cable spools, this one is metal so I decided to give it a try. The cable hooks are not well constructed and the cable, zip ties, rope and twists keep slipping off. In the end I made a through hole on the side and securely fastened the middle part of the cable (if you haven't seen it in other reviews, find the middle of your cable, attach it to the spool and spool and allow access to either end... the spool is smaller and less stiff than my two "orange spools" but seems to get the job done on a 100ft extension. The spools on the orange spools are slightly larger in diameter. Overall this unit is slightly smaller than the orange units and it was more difficult to put a foot on the base and coil a 100ft extension cord You need help threading the cord onto this reel It works and seems to get the job done once I got past the poorly designed cable hooks I need to replace it, I'll go for the orange ones next time.
