Excellent charger regardless of firmware version

I'm only deducting 1 star because of the issues described below. History: I received the charger very quickly (like all other Prime purchases). The description says "second generation". As far as I know about this product, it is supposed to be firmware 2.1. When you turn on the device, "2.1” should appear before the main screen appears. HOWEVER, the first device I got (spoiler alert, right?) was just a 2.0. You can read other reviews about the difference between 2.0 and 2.1 (top reviewer is NLee the Engineer) but I wanted 2.1. Before defending the "second generation" 2.0, be aware that there is a statement in the product's user manual that "when you turn on the charger, the version number 2.1 is displayed for 2 seconds". Unfortunately that wasn't the case so I called Revain who include a 30 day maintenance schedule with this product and they quickly agreed to send me a replacement. A few days later the first replacement came with the same problem. Revain then removed its listing from the site to study and inspect the items in its warehouse. They did exactly that and called me a week later to say it was back on their website and they checked the inventory to make sure it was correct. They sent a second replacement. The start screen was of course 2.0! Well, Revain was willing to give me a full refund and let me buy from another seller, but also offered me a partial refund if I decide to keep the charger. I received a refund as there was no guarantee that the other seller would send me the correct version of the product and who knows what their customer service and return policy would be. Version 2.0 Overview: All in all, this was a process I'd rather not go through. but the charger is great. I bought this because I had Energizer 2500mAh batteries 8-10 years ago and wanted to see how they stacked up against new low drain batteries in terms of both capacity (mAh) and lifespan 10 years from now. I don't have a review of them as it's been a long time since I've used Revain on a daily basis, but I'm very surprised that after all this time they've still upgraded to the 2350-2450 range. Based on all the other reviews I was sure that a) they never lived up to their advertised rating and b) would be significantly lower after all these years. Come on Energizer! I've tested and upgraded about 60 batteries (most of the non-energizers I bought new this year if you want to see my other reviews) and haven't had any charging or upgrading issues. Yes, one of the big differences of the version is that in the discharge update mode, after discharge, the mAh value is not saved from the last discharge on the screen. So you really just have to wait for all cycles to complete to see how good your battery is. The LCD backlight on this version only stays on for a short time, which is an issue and I was looking forward to 30 seconds to give myself time to write down the capacitance readings before taking them out, but I can live with that too. Now that I've upgraded all my old energizers and bought a few new ReCyko GPs, I doubt I'll be using the charger even on a weekly basis for the little nuances to be dealt with. Great charger. In my opinion, everyone who owns batteries should have a battery refresher. This is my first but hopefully my last!
