DO NOT BUY - SUCTORS ARE TOXIC TO FISH

Bought this heater about 6 months ago based on reading a good review of efficient aquarium heaters. When the package arrived the glass was cracked. When opening the box the glass fell everywhere and had to ask for a new one. The next came whole, but the temperature control was very weak. I had to set the heater at 82 degrees Fahrenheit to keep the water at 76 degrees Fahrenheit. I have a 3.5 gallon aquarium for my female cock. There were other things about him that I didn't really like, but I thought he did a good job. WARNING: Since using this heater my perfectly healthy and happy rooster has had a horrible case of fin rot. I did everything I could to heal her from sea salt treatments, heavy water changes to long term (2+ week) medications. I kept bringing water samples to test water levels at my local pet store and despite my best efforts to care for her and control her environment to heal her fins, the water tests were not safe. I did everything I could to heal her, but her fins continued to melt. Yesterday I did another big water change and used a paper towel to wipe off the black dirt that had built up on the aquarium plants. As I did so, I hit the suction cup on the heater and what appeared to be black ink landed on my hands. I removed the heater and as you can see from the photos the plastic the company uses to make the suction cups is not aquarium safe! It's poisonous and has been poisoning my tank the whole time! I am angry. My fish was suffering and I was suffering trying to help it. All this time I was trying to understand what was wrong and why this black thing constantly appears on the plants, why its fins are melting. It's terrible. I will never buy an aquarium heater from Amazon again. I'm sure this company transferred their materials somewhere in China using toxic materials that are unsafe for the purpose they are supposed to be used for. And now the fins of my once beautiful rooster are going numb. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO KILL YOUR FISH SLOWLY AND DRY IN TIME.
