worked well until it didn't

So for the short term this belt is great. It relieved my lower back pain as soon as I put it on. I have belly weight that hangs from pregnancy and just being overweight. It's nice to wear when working out at the gym, though it does press fat around and make you feel and look bulky higher up your ribs. It did also get a little bunchy while sitting for work but I like to wear it low. And I'd have to take it off to go the bathroom, so in the end I didn't wear it much. In fact, long stretches of time, like months, of not wearing it (pain was better from PT at times too). So I was disappointed that after a year or so of occasional use, the velcro wore out. There is some fuzzy stuff from scarves and things in the velcro, only a little, but perhaps that added to the problem so sharing as a heads up. Also sharing to be very careful about it not sticking. I put it on the other day then leaned over to get something. The velcro had seemed secure enough, but the outer strap snapped off unexpectedly with such great force that it smacked my arm leaving a nasty bruise (photos). It makes sense something under tension would have that potential, but just sharing to be careful. Overall I have liked the design for lessening pain in my back. This seems like a tricky thing to find the right design that fits right and works well, so overall I'd say it was worth the investment. I just wasn't ready to replace it so soon.

Pros
  • Can be worn during exercise or daily activities
Cons
  • May not be effective for long-term relief of chronic pain
