Come on folks, this isn't a temperature calibrated scientific instrument...it's a slow cooker that costs $55 to $80 and works well. The countdown timer works with the settings you have set, e.g. e.g. 2-4-6-8 etc. and once you set the temperature (e.g. 2 hours) it will turn off after 2 hours and work as intended. Mine didn't melt and the lid didn't explode, but if it did the warranty would have expired, I would have bought a new one and my days would have been happier. Note: It fits the Hamilton Beach Insulated Carrier perfectly. (Hamilton Beach 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 Quart Multicooker Travel Case and Carrying Bag (33002) for $15. Live long and be happy.
