Review on Cestari Kitchen'S Ceramic Blade Vegetable Peeler - Effortlessly Peel Your Veggies - Set Of 2 by Benjamin Chang

If You Buy This Peeler, Plan on Wasting A Lot of Vegetables

Contrary to the description, the "Best Vegetable Peeler" I received absolutely gouges vegetables. It takes off about a 3/16" strip from them, no matter what I try. I tried peeling carrots and potatoes, and this peeler was useless for both. I *assume* this was a defective item, or from a bad batch, but don't know because multiple emails to Cestari went unanswered, and their phone number during business hours just rings and rings.I'd stay away.Update: It took quite a few phone calls, but I finally got through to Cestari Kitchen. Susan was very apologetic, and offered to send me both a new peeler and a new ceramic knife they were working on as an apology. She was very gracious on the phone.which is why I feel bad reporting that the new peeler was at best marginally better than the original. It continues to remove a significant portion of the flesh underneath the skin, wasting quite a bit of the vegetable/fruit. When I thought I'd never hear from Cestari, I broke down and shelled out $2.99 for a Farberware peeler from Wal-Mart. It peels vegetables perfectly, removing just enough of the skin. Again, with all the positive reviews, I'd suspect that my peelers were part of a bad batch, but going 0/2 is not inspiring. On the plus side, though I have a nice set of J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S knives, the ceramic knife they sent me cut very nicely. I threw it in the drawer inside it's protective sleeve in case I need to hack up something that I don't want to ruin my nice knives with.Update 2: Reading Cestari's response, it seems they would like to blame user error for the poor quality of their peeler. However, as seen in the video, I don't seem to have any issues peeling vegetables with a $3 Wal-Mart peeler. And while the compensation knife was nice, it doesn't change the fact that this peeler simply does not work well.

Pros
  • Dishwasher safe for easy cleaning after use
Cons
  • The ceramic blade may not be suitable for peeling large quantities of vegetables
