My Maine Coon got sick every time we took him to the barber so I bought a pet razor but he runs out of the room when I turn it on. So I asked the Maine Coon Cattery owners how they remove hairballs from their show cats and they advised me to buy a seam ripper. This little dritz ripper is perfect for removing hairballs from my cat. I have tried other brands of seam rippers but the blades are not sharp enough. This ripper fits my hand perfectly. For some reason the blade of this little ripper feels sharper than the longer model. If you want to try this technique on your cat, don't pull too hard on the cotton ball.
