Much better than all those "automatic" open and close models that are everywhere. I was constantly opening and closing them and accidentally touching the side button, which was right where I had to hold the phone to accurately touch the screen. In this case, manually press the sides against the phone and press the button on the back to release them. Much better. I only wish it had wireless charging, that's the only improvement I would make on this model.
