I have an artificial tree that rotates so this star is perfect because it has two sides. Other reviewers said it was heavy, but I didn't find it to be so for faux wood. If you have a real tree I'm not sure. I just inserted the branch all the way into the top tree holder, used other branches and wrapped it around the holder and everything is fine. My Christmas tree isn't pre-lit either. This is a good quality "old" model that I am building branch by branch. The star is beautiful and bright, but not unpleasant. And yes, there is a portrait of Bill Murray on my living room wall. LAUGH OUT LOUD
