As a mechanical engineer, the measurements I take need to be accurate, and with this micrometer, I know I'm getting the accurate and repeatable measurements I need to do my job. The micrometer comes in a protective hard plastic case and thanks to its IP65 rating I don't have to worry about oil or coolant getting on the micrometer and damaging it. All my digital gauges are Mitutoyo and I wouldn't trade them for any other brand. The ratchet thimble makes it practically impossible to over-tighten the micrometer when used correctly and also enables convenient quick adjustment. The inch/metric display (+/- 0.00005 inch or 0.001 mm) is easy to read, and selecting between absolute or reference measurements (or between inch and metric) is a quick push of a button. If you remove it, it remains in a low-power standby mode while the micrometer is removed, as it wakes up as soon as it detects spindle movement and goes to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity. I prefer this power/wait system to the Mitutoyo AOS Vernier digital calipers, which have an on/off switch.
