Review on Enhance Your Workspace with the HON HVST141 Task Chair: Height Arms, Adjustable Lumbar, Black by Julie Flores

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Unfortunately a very uncomfortable and cheap chair.

I had high hopes for this chair after deciding to replace my previous chair (Flash Furniture Hercules) after 3 years of use (reviewed here: https://www.amazon .com/gp/customerreviews/RPSNVR0FSATWH). Unfortunately just prior to purchase we had to euthanize one of our dogs for health reasons and her name was Sadie. Thought that was a good sign as I was looking for a good chair - sadly it was far from it! :-(Some details about my chair use - I work 50-60 hours a week in IT, have been working from home for 7 years and usually have 12-16 days off when I work about 40 hours extra between Friday and Monday evening and tomorrow to transfer customer data while offline I'm 6ft 4" and currently 430 lbs. Yes I know I'm technically over the supported weight for this chair but usually it's all spinning around the lift cylinder, not the chair design itself (see below for more on the lift cylinder) The previous chair was great for the first two years then equipment failures and wear on the seat cushion started Towards the end of using the previous chair I could only sit in it for about a period of time an hour before i started having tailbone and hip pain Sadie's chair was fine for the first month or so, I was able to sit in it for about 7-8 hours (vi maybe get up once or twice) before how uncomfortable I have had this chair for 4 months now (purchased 11 Jun 2020 reviewed 15 Oct 2020). I start having tailbone and hip pain after sitting in this chair for about 30 minutes. Adjusted up/down, changed the height of the armrest, nothing helps. (except for the new chair that is on the way today). It feels like this chair has no padding as soon as you sit down, it's just hard plastic and metal separated by a layer of fabric on your bum and legs. During assembly, two screws broke off during initial assembly and I had to put washers under the heads on the other three as the holes in the bracket were either oblong or simply larger in circumference than the heads of the supplied screws. They were also class 3 screws. The hardware that came was sealed in its original packaging so don't assume someone returned this and gave me crappy hardware (which I've seen on other chairs ordered from Revain). The photos show enlarged mounting holes and washers that I had to put under most of the screws. Luckily I was able to loosen the remaining bolts, remove the strut and use a couple of vises to remove the two bolts that came loose as part of the shaft was still exposed after the heads snapped off. I had a couple of grade 5 bolts and washers that worked until a replacement came along. Talk about. This chair creaked the entire 3 days I used it between ordering replacement Class 5 socket head screws (bolts) and large steel washers from McMaster and the time I replaced them. With their replacement, the chair has become much stronger. I also switched to a heavy duty lift cylinder when I made the hardware change as the cylinder that came with the kit wobbled even though it appeared to be fully seated in the base. I was planning on going straight to the heavy-duty cylinder, but since this chair was rated at 400 pounds, I figured I'd at least see how long it would last before it started falling off. Unfortunately this made the chair quite wobbly and it became a safety issue for me so I replaced it with this one: B078BPJ6W1 Finally I didn't even bother with the included casters which I rode on (and suggest you use any of these or a sealed top version similar to this) B07V3HMLKT immediately. Despite the fact that I never intended to post regular videos, I appreciated them. The reels that came with it were very cheap made, the two locking rings on top of the shafts didn't even fit together and when I held the reels and rolled them it felt like there were grains of sand, metal or something. inside, did not roll smoothly at all. The "regular" inline skate style wheelset is a MUST upgrade over the standard wheelset, but the above have sealed bearings instead of a cheap mild steel cap that will bend over time and allow the ball bearings to fall out and ends up all on the floor and there's a risk of slipping (not to mention the little black smears they leave on your chair mat!). one, so please follow me if you are wondering how the exchange is going.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old ones
Cons
  • Some little things
