Review on EBL 8-Pack Rechargeable Lithium AA Batteries With Smart Charger - Long-Lasting 1.5V AA Li-Ion Batteries by Omar Thorndike

Mostly do their job, not as good as disposables

The bottom line first: They're nowhere near as good as disposable batteries, but they mostly do what I need them to. In my efforts to produce less waste, I continue to buy more when I need to replace disposables.I've been using these for about a year now. I originally bought them to replace the lithium batteries that my blink cameras require, but I've also been using them to replace most any AA batteries that run out.The first thing I noticed is that they're pretty inferior to disposable lithium batteries. To be fair, this is expected--it's a cost you pay for rechargeables. As soon as I put them in my cameras, they start complaining of low batteries. I expected they wouldn't last as long as disposables and they don't--I have to replace them every month or 2 as opposed to about every 6 months with disposables. Because the cameras aren't satisfied with the voltage as soon as they're installed, I don't get a notification when the batteries are actually about to die. I just have to notice that they're not working anymore, which is a bummer. The second thing I noticed is that their voltage is not constant. I put one of them in a beard trimmer and when I first turn it on, it barely runs, but then after a while it speeds up. And the speed changes dramatically as I continue to use it. I assume it has to do with the safety mechanisms Lithium batteries have to have so they don't explode. I've never noticed these batteries getting hot, so those mechanisms seem to work.

Pros
  • Safe and reliable to use
Cons
  • The charging base may be prone to tipping over if not placed on a level surface
