Review on Forney 30301 Welding 32 Inch 1 Pound by Scott Welch

Thin, precise, low force welding wire

I learned about welding many years ago. I didn't even know steel welding rods were different - just big and small. I recently needed to attach a bracket to my lawn mower so I bought an inexpensive adjustable welder. I bought cranks 6011, 6013 and 7024. Played around with different bars and amps and came to some conclusions: 6011 left almost no slag, but it was very difficult to hit thin metal at low current, 6013 left TONS of slag, VERY easy to hit but needed the right balance. Glue and burn pieces. 7024 was a larger version of 6011. The metal I had just wasn't big enough to withstand the security of 6011 welds and was a frustrating mess with 6013. I then found these smaller 6013 bars at Revain. They are as light as the 6013 but can be used at lower amperages. I've used them successfully up to 30 amps. I wouldn't weld large pieces with them, but they're great for welding thin metals and creating artwork. They are of course very small in diameter but the same length as the other rods. You'll burn through them faster because there's less metal in the center. Highly recommended. Now I'm looking for 6011 with the same diameter.

Pros
  • Used for all types of mild steel production
Cons
  • High price
