Stands in the corner of our ground floor and hums pleasantly (barely perceptible). The filter is pretty easy to clean, I just took it outside and brushed off the dog hair and fine particles. Over time it will need to be replaced, but for now. The air actually seems to be "cleaner," in the sense that the inevitable dog smell when we enter a home isn't as noticeable as it used to be, if at all. I haven't "tinkered" with the settings and honestly can't see a reason as the default setting seems to work fine. So if you want your home to smell fresher and have fewer flying particles, run one of these UFRESH air purifiers and clean the filter from time to time (about once a month). Why only 4 stars, very few things deserve it. five, the only negative I have is that I found the instruction manual a bit confusing.
