To be honest, these are my first metal DPNs. I have always used bamboo for fear of losing stitches without additional friction. In any case, this set is perfect for my needs. The needles are stout, maybe a little heavier than I would have preferred for the largest diameter. The needles are fairly symmetrical. Not sure if this is an intended feature, but my needles have one end that is sharper and the other blunt. I found that good, depending on which yarn I use. I can definitely make the knit tighter for socks, which helped me a lot to find the right thickness. I love that the size is engraved on the needles so it doesn't rub off and the tote is durable. I can't compare to other needles but I was so happy to find a quality set that wasn't nickel plated (I'm allergic). This is my first knitwear purchase but I will definitely check them out in the future. shopping for knitting
