I just had to replace this item in an old smart key latch that no longer worked. (This item is intended to be used in storm doors.) In order for it to fit into the body of the latch I had to file the top of it a bit. I recreated it with my Schlage set but the crown tool didn't fit in the end. (I'm assuming this is because it wasn't made by Schlage.) I just gently pressed a small pin with my tiny Swiss Army file to unscrew the end cap and replace after installing the new pins. It was a little fiddly, but with a little patience it worked. Contrary to what others have said, my existing Slap button worked great.
