Bought as I am about to move to California. Unlike AC, it doesn't need to be used next to an exhaust window, is quieter, and uses much less power. However, this only works in very dry places. Swamp coolers, aka evaporative coolers, are found in places like New Mexico, Arizona, etc. for some reason, but not places like Florida or Massachusetts. They are also excellent humidifiers. That's something you don't need in the already high humidity of the Deep South, because whatever you do will lead to heat exhaustion very quickly.
