I don't know how to explain, I just feel like other designs don't allow me to pedal at all unless fully locked out while Shimano allows me to to pedal whether I'm locked or not. stay here with me On club rides, when starting from a stop at a red light/stop sign, it's crucial that you can accelerate and get through the intersection, rather than holding people back by messing with the lock. In my experience, the Shimano design works best for this situation - the wide design allows for pedaling even when they are unlocked. I've been wearing them for about 3 years (on my 3rd pair) and have gotten very good at clipping them on quickly. but sometimes I just step through an intersection and the wide triangle design keeps me from stepping as easily as other designs. I've been behind people holding other drivers back in the middle of an intersection while they fool around trying to lock their pedals instead of just pedaling first and then locking on the other side. I find Shimano to be the best design for pedaling when not fully locked as well as for quick locking.
