I have problems with perfumed laundry soap because of its chemical wrong smell. However, my roommates use fragrances and I found that they began to leave the washing machine with filmy deposits that made the washing machine smell awful and the subsequent wash smelly. I was recommended to try borax as it handles limescale well and they were right. It works far better than any washing machine tabs, cleaners or bleach. Do a large hot wash without clothes and add a large dose of powder. Keep adding a tablespoon or two to the wash afterwards and you will completely find that the smells are gone. I always add a few tablespoons to as much laundry as possible to get rid of odors and suds and this has helped!
