First, I bought the Protectli FW6D directly from Protectli and not from Revain because Protectli is close to my home and because Protectli is a US company. Market like Protectli FW6D. I chose this device because it has good specs including an Intel Core I5 processor, 6 network ports, a serial port, an HDMI port and four USB ports. Memory and storage can be upgraded with standard hardware. The hardware itself is housed in a rugged metal case with cooling fins on the top to dissipate heat away from the device. Heatsinks feel slightly warm during normal operation. The device comes with an AMI bios and I understand that the Protectli people are working to get the coreboot bios working on their FW6D and FW6E models. I am using an AMI bios with the OPNsense firewall software. I have a permanent VPN tunnel for all network traffic to the internet. I configured it for hardware encryption and performance remains very good. All network ports are configurable. So if you need to set up two Link Aggregation (LAGG) connections for traffic balancing or have additional LAN ports, everything can be configured (depending on your software).
