I bought a 3 inch data cable from a mid/late 2007 Macbook Pro to a new hard drive that is installed in a late 2011 Macbook Pro. Both laptops are capable of transferring data at speeds of up to 800Mbps over FireWire. Several attempts to transfer data through Migration Assistant showed an average transfer speed of only 11-13 Mbps! I was desperate so I let it run and after almost 12 hours the transfer failed. I tried initiating a few more transfers and the top speed was 14Mbps and it didn't take long (less than a minute) before it dropped back to 12-13Mbps. I canceled the transfer so I can use the MBP 2007. The plastic bag also said 3ft, but the cord was 6ft. I was told the shorter the cable, the better for data transfer, so getting a cable twice the length wasn't a good idea. No wonder I am returning this cable for a refund. I bought online because my local Best Buy and Walmart stores don't have this cable and after that disappointment I wish I'd made a few calls to find a brick and mortar store in the area stocking it and drove from my country.
